Maui County winter storm update as of 2 p.m., January 31, 2025
STORM UPDATE
The winter storm impacted Maui County overnight and into early today, bringing heavy rains, high winds, flooding and thunder, along with causing significant damage. There are no reports of injuries, missing people or fatalities.
COUNTY RESPONSE
The Maui Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is working with local and state partners to assess damage from the storm. Residents who have been impacted by the storm can submit damage reports to MEMA online through the following link: https://crisistrack.juvare.com/public/mauiHI/request.html. Mayor Richard Bissen signed an emergency proclamation early Thursday ahead of the storm, which gives the County the legal authority to mobilize resources, activate emergency plans and streamline processes to respond quickly and effectively.
SHELTERS
American Red Cross emergency shelters in Kīhei, Lahaina, Pukalani and Hāna were closed at 11 a.m. Friday after careful consideration of the storm’s progression and the reduced need for sheltering, according to MEMA.
